The Free Gift Gospel Mission will be having our Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Hotdog Picnic on Saturday, April 15, from 11a.m.-1p.m.

We will start off inside the church sanctuary at 11a.m. with a brief Easter Message and scripture reading from Pastor Vern to the children.

Then we will transition outside to our grassy area where we will do 4 seperate egg hunts for 4 different age groups one at a time (each hunt only last about 5 minutes or so, so other age groups won’t have to wait very long). There will be special prize eggs along with many regular eggs containing candy.

Free hotdogs, chips, and soda will be served to all who come (adults AND kids).

This event is within walking distance of Dale Street, Sevier, Myrtle, and other surrounding streets.

Come a few minutes early. We will start promplty at 11a.m. with the Welcome and brief Easter message and scripture reading, then immediately start hunting eggs after that. Don’t be late!

God bless!

March 26, 2017 Update

It’s been a tremendous and wonderful weekend for The Free Gift Gospel Mission. Last night’s benefit singing turned into one the best worship services I’ve ever been in. The Lord provided $2604 last night for our building fund, but He wasn’t finished. When we got to church this morning another dear sister who couldn’t attend the benefit singing last night handed me a check for $3000! That made our total of money raised this weekend $5604…..and that’s not counting our current ongoing quarter book fundraiser! God is so good!

The Spirit of God came down and blessed in a mighty way this morning with many folks shouting and praising God and many folks coming to the altar to pray and receive help and strength. Bro. Johnny Copas brought a great message reminding the church that God doesn’t give us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.

The Lord just carried on into tonight service with more shouting and praising the Lord and the altar full. Bro. Doutt preached a powerful message from Luke 2 reminding us to always be about God’s business no matter what.

One brother said it was almost like God showed up last night at the benefit singing and just pulled up a chair and stayed right there all night until we came back this morning. It truly has been a great weekend.

Thanks to The Minister’s Quartet, The Great Commission Praise Team, and The Singing Doutts for all of their help to the church, and thanks to everyone who has given and prayed for the church!

May you all have a blessed upcoming week in the Lord!

Love in Christ,

His Timing is Perfect!

In Luke Chapter 8, the Bible records the story of the woman with the issue of blood. She had this condition for 12 years and could not be healed by anyone else. But one day as Jesus was walking along with a great crowd of people pressing against Him, she made her way to Him and touched the hem of His garment and immediately she was healed.

The Lord Jesus certainly had the power to heal this woman before then, and some have wondered why He didn’t. The Bible doesn’t give us specific details about why He didn’t heal her before then, but it does teach us that the Lord always has a plan and a purpose for His ways, and His timing is perfect!

As you go about your day today, think about what it means in your life to know that His timing is perfect.

Open Letter to Our Community

Just wrote this open letter to the community where our church is located. Will be distributing this door to door asap:

Dear Community,

I’m writing this open letter in effort to uplift and encourage the men, women, and children of our community, in hopes of combating some of the societal mayhem that we are witnessing before our eyes today. We live in a nation where animosity, bitterness, and hatred are ruling the day. People are hurting, confused, fearful, and divided more than I’ve seen in my 42 years of life. A few nights ago, I sat down in front of my computer and subjected myself to over an hour of internet videos that I found deeply disturbing.

The content of these videos consisted of images from many of the various protests that are taking place across this country. What I witnessed was utterly appalling. There are people on multiple sides of multiple issues who are out there treating each other in a sub-human fashion with no compassion, and no remorse. Upon witnessing the vitriolic hatred that is being spread on the streets in our country, I became indignant, and disappointed. Then I decided that I needed to do more about it.

None of this should really be surprising from my worldview, as the Bible plainly teaches that we will all reap exactly what we sow. So if we choose to sow hatred, bitterness, and animosity, these things will be what we reap. On the other hand, if we choose to sow love, joy, and peace, then we will reap love, joy, and peace back into our lives. This is The Law of the Harvest as detailed in Galatians Chapter 6:7-9:

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

A large part of the problem is that many people in America have been sowing to the flesh. They’ve forgotten the Lord. They have bowed down the idol of human autonomy and adopted a worldly ideology that works contrary to Word of Truth (the Bible). To paraphrase Dr. Greg Bahnsen, they view logic as a self-sufficient tool of autonomous man’s reason, instead of rules of thought implanted in our minds by the Creator. Although we all share in the rules of thought, Christians and non-Christians are not neutral in their interpretation of these rules. The Christian accepts God’s interpretation without question, while the non-Christian imposes his own interpretation to challenge the Creator’s interpretation. What we are seeing on our nation’s streets today (cruelty, hatred, lack of compassion) is a direct result of this suppression of the truth.

The answer to all of these problems is Jesus Christ. You see friends, we are living in very troublesome times, but we’re not without hope. Hebrews Chapter 6 teaches us that those who trust in the work of Jesus Christ have a hope that anchors their souls, and this anchor is sure and steadfast. Romans 15:13 also reminds us that God is the God of hope, and He is able to fill us with joy and peace through the power of the Holy Ghost. Peace is the main point of my message to you today. There is true peace available to you, but it’s only found in one source: Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

When you’re resting in the peace of Jesus Christ, He’ll calm your troubled soul. He’ll ease your fears and your worries. He’ll change your entire perspective, and you’ll become someone who will go out there and impact this world in a positive way, showing the true love of Christ, having compassion on other people, treating people with respect even if you disagree with them, and that peace will abide in the hearts of believers, regardless of the mayhem that may be taking place around them.

In closing, let me encourage you today to look to Jesus Christ. You don’t have to live in fear. You don’t have to live a life void of compassion. You can find the answers to all of life’s problems in Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” My prayer today is for all of those who are struggling with the mayhem that is unfolding in our nation and around the world to remember these words, and put them into practice in your life, and may you ever be mindful of the fact that true peace is found only in Jesus Christ. Please take this message, that peace is found in Christ, and share it with someone else today, so the chaos found in those internet videos doesn’t continue unhindered.

Love in Christ,

Schedule change update

Due to extremely low temperatures (wind chills in the area are very hazardous) and the potential for ice hazard from melted and refrozen snow, we will not be having church today.  There are lots of factors that we have to consider when making these tough decisions.  We don’t want anyone getting hurt or sick.  We don’t want to risk getting elderly people out on the church van and risk breakdown on such a cold day, and I could go.

So, all services today are cancelled.  Lord willing, we’ll meet at the regular time on Wednesday evening at 7p.m.  Stay safe everyone.

Schedule Change for January 8, 2017

After conferring with the deacons, we have decided to do one church service tomorrow  (1/8/17) at 2p.m.  There will be no Sunday School and no evening service.  The business meeting that was supposed to take place tomorrow will have to be postponed until next week.

I’m getting read to go over to the church now with a snow shovel and work on moving snow.  Any men with shovels who are free and would like to help can meet me there about 3:45p.m.

Love in Christ,

Pastor Vern
