A Living Church

While listening to “Up For Debate” on Moody Radio today, I heard John J. Thompson say that Mega-churches are growing, medium-sized churches are shrinking, and small churches are dying. I’m thankful to God that this has not been the case with The Free Gift Gospel Mission. Next week we will celebrate the 8th Anniversary of our first service and enter our 9th year. Yes, we are still a small church, but we have only seen growth over the years-slow, steady, and healthy growth. We are flourishing with young people, and deeply value are older members as well. I give thanks to the Lord today for a living church….not a dying church.

I also want to remember to pray for those small churches that are having to close their doors. May those places where the Bible is being preached be blessed and revived, and may we all seek spiritual growth before numerical growth. May we also be reminded that although the word “church” may be understood in several ways, there is one church that is the bride of Christ. This church shall never die nor shall the gates of Hell prevail against it.

Book Cover

Yay!  The design team finally sent me the proof of my new book cover.  Here it is.  The text you see on the back is just filler text.  It will be changed before printing.  What do you think?

The 2015 Easter Egg Hunt and Hot dog Picnic

The 2015 Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Hotdog picnic is now history. I believe this year’s event was one of the best we’ve had. I always look forward to sharing the good news of Jesus’ resurrection. We made 100 candy bags to give away to children and out of those 100 there were 31 left over, so if every child took their candy bag, that means 69 children were present for the event. This isn’t counting the many adults who were also on hand for the Bible reading and lesson. I would say, “SUCCESS!” Thank you, Lord.

Good morning loved ones. Let’s start our day by looking at some scripture that might help us along and encourage our hearts this morning. If you’ve already started your day with scripture, this will just be a bonus. smile emoticon

Philippians 4:7-8 says, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

God gives peace to those who come to him in child-like trust and confidence, and this peace from God transcends human understanding. Let us therefore fill our minds today with only the things that are good and holy. Let’s us avoid the negative things that might distract us and take our minds off of the Lord. May the good things of Jesus Christ guide our thoughts and direct our motives today, for if our thoughts are appropriately centered on Him, it will flow out of our lives.

Bro. Ryan Elliott will be preaching tonight at 7p.m. Please pray for the message. I need your prayers also as we gear up for one of the biggest weekends of the year…..Resurrection Day

Loving Others Journey Team Outing (Saturday, March 21 at 12:30p.m.)

WE ARE LOOKING FOR………people who are interested in letting their lights shine and being witnesses for Jesus Christ. You ask, “Oh Pastor, that is my desire! How may I go about realizing this in my own life???” Well, this is what you do. Show up at the church tomorrow at 12:30p.m. and go out with the Loving Others Journey team. You won’t be by yourself and you won’t have to do any talking unless you want to. We need more prayer warriors and smiling faces…… and just about anyone can do that!

Now with that said, let me share my sincere prayer request with you all. I’m am earnestly praying that God would move upon hearts and some more people would get a burden for this ministry. My prayer is that some new faces will show up tomorrow eager and ready to serve, and some others we’ve not had in awhile would come back out and help us. The more people we have the more people we can encounter, and the more ground we can cover for Jesus. Won’t you help us blanket the neighborhood? I hope you will.

There are many reasons why you should join us tomorrow, but I think the main reason you should join us is because Christ commanded his disciples in the Great Commission to go out into the world and preach the gospel to everyone, and building relationships and getting to know people is of extreme importance in ministry. Is that reason enough for YOU to show up tomorrow? It surely should be my dear friend…..it surely should be.

To the one reading this post, YES…YOU! Why not join us tomorrow at 12:30p.m? It is supposed to be in the 60’s with only a 10% chance of rain. You’ll have an opportunity to be a blessing to others, God will be glorified, and in turn, you’ll be blessed yourself!

So, that other thing that you WERE GOING to do instead…..you know…..that thing that can WAIT until another time because it’s NOT really important…….will you sacrifice that to come work for Jesus? The time is drawing near and people are going to Hell. They need to hear about Jesus Christ and see his love in action. I know you all agree. Isn’t God great? I’ll be looking for you! Yes you!

Love in Christ,

Pastor Vern
