The Bread of Life-He Satisfies!

Joh 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

This was a part of our morning devotion today and I’d like to elaborate and share with all of you. This is a verse of scripture that is very familiar and dear to believers around the world. With these words our precious Savior turns the conversation from the materialistic (the bread that their fathers ate in the wilderness) to Himself. He is the Bread of Life, meaning the bread which gives life. You see, coming to Christ and believing in Him are seen as synonymous, and this is the ONLY means by which one can attain spiritual satisfaction. This progressive liberal, secular humanistic, politically correct society will take issue with these words and cite them as offensive. Nonetheless, by these words is the truth of God revealed.

Not only does Jesus Christ have life in Himself, but He is able to impart life to others. This bread is not something external or apart from Himself. One must COME to Him….and for all who come to Him will see their spiritual hunger banished forever.

He also said, “…and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” We see our Lord mentioned eating and drinking together in this verse. This could be in view of verses 53-56:

Joh 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
Joh 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

These words are without a doubt anticipating the significance of the Lord’s Supper, which represents the sacred union between Christ and those who believe in Him. Through this, we can be reminded that one need never turn from Christ to find spiritual satisfaction. He is the source.

Consider this question today. Are you totally committed to Jesus Christ? Because total commitment to Christ means total salvation for the committed. There is nothing partial in God’s giving of this Bread of Life, and therefore there is nothing partial in receiving it. I hope you know Him in a saving way this very day.

Heavenly Father, may these verses of scripture and these words go forth today being used of the Holy Spirit of God to impact someone’s day, and turn hearts toward Christ in truth, sincerity and commitment. If there are people reading these words who lack this total commitment, my prayer is that you would open their hearts to the realize their great need, and to see Christ in His proper light. May many people call upon the name of the Lord today, for whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rom. 10:13). We thank you for Christ, who is the Bread of Life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Have a blessed day!

January Jubilee Update!

The January Jubilee continues tonight at 7p.m. with special singing by Terry Collins and preaching by Johnny Copas. We’ve had two great services so far and I’m expecting another one tonight.

Last night, Pastor Kevin Morris preached a much needed message about trusting God.  It was a message that I believe helped straighten some things out in people’s lives including my own.  We all definitely need to keep in mind how utterly important it is to trust God in all things.

I was blessed to have some visitors approach me after the service and make a nice comment about our church having a lot of talent in it. Thanks to everyone who sang/obeyed the Lord last night.

The Free Gift Gospel Mission is located at 1025 Maple Street in Kingsport. Come worship with us tonight.

The January Jubilee starts tonight!

The January Jubilee is an opportunity handed to us by the Lord….an opportunity for us to be excited about coming to church, worshipping the Lord, and hearing His Word. It’s an opportunity for us to be excited enough about what God is doing that it abounds within our hearts throughout the day and culminates in a burning desire and anticipation to assemble together with those of like-precious faith. It’s an opportunity for us to be SO excited about what God is doing that we‘ll share Him in our conversations with the people we meet throughout the day, and rather than staying mum, we’ll speak up and invite people to come and worship God with us. Even more than that, the January Jubilee is an opportunity for us who desire to work for God, be used of God, and have been praying about how this can happen, to open our minds to not only inviting people we come across in the course of our day, but to actually put forth a real effort to go out of our way to call someone and invite them to come, or even drop in for a visit and invite someone that way. I pray many perceive and share the same perceptions of these opportunities that I’ve outlined here.

And just to think how Satan will try to lie to us and tell us it’s a dread and a drudgery to come to church, honor our commitments as members to support conferences and revivals etc., and try to plant in our minds the formulations of excuses and reasons why we shouldn’t feel obliged to turn out IN FORCE to eagerly participate in the things of God. I’m glad we have clear revelation in the Bible concerning who’s responsible for this. It’s none other than Satan, who is a liar and the Father of it! Thank you, Lord!

The January Jubilee begins tonight at The Free Gift Gospel Mission located at 1025 Maple Street in Kingsport. It will continue through Saturday night, January 30th with special singing and preaching each night at 7p.m. Tonight, Bro. Johnny Copas will be preaching and Mike and Dottie Lane will be our guest singers. I’m expecting God to move in hearts and minds and lives to be IMPACTED for Christ. Somebody may say, “Pastor, you’re always expecting that.” Yes, that’s true, and I always will, because I’ve witnessed first hand what God is able to do when His people get a mind to be about His business. So be encouraged, be challenged, and be blessed. My sincere and humble prayer is that folks will turn out tonight AND on through Saturday night for this Jubilee. Will you come and worship with us? I pray you will.

Love in Christ,

Morning Study from 1 Cor. 2:9-10

Here’s my morning study. I’d like to share this with you, and I hope many will be blessed by this post. Please read.

1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

With my Bible open to 1 Corinthians Chapter 2 this morning, I noticed these familiar words from The Apostle Paul in verse 9. Here Paul is giving his argument that the natural man through his physical senses is unable to understand the wisdom of God in the cross of Jesus Christ. He cannot perceive or even imagine what God has in view to do for His people. This is speaking of truth which is undiscoverable apart from divine revelation.

“But as it is written…” This could be an adaption from Isaiah 64:4 and 65:17 as Paul freely quotes from memory from the LXX (Septuagint). Some have argued that Paul was quoting from non-canonical writings here but I’m skeptical of such arguments due to the possibility (based on my study and reading) that those authors might have actually been quoting Paul. Paul Marsh points out that Clement of Rome, in the earliest extant quotation of verse 9 goes back to the Septuagint of Isaiah 64:4, which gives his idea concerning its origination.

“…neither have entered into the heart of man,…” The word translated “heart” here means more than just emotions, as A.T. Robertson points out by citing the use of the same word in Romans 1:21. In short, this speaks again of the natural man’s inability to “know” the things of God that He has prepared for them that love Him. This word “love” in 1 Corinthians 2:9 is “agapaō”, which speaks of affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of benefits received. The natural man cannot even begin to imagine what God has in view for them that love (reverence, obey, and recognize his benefits) Him.

But let’s look at the next verse:

1Co 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
The divine plan concerning the work of Jesus Christ has been revealed to Christians! The whole entire process is a work of the Holy Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things. Why does the Spirit search all things? It’s not because He needs to learn some information, but to penetrate into all things, particularly those things that are unfathomable to the human mind. Praise the Lord! These things are no longer hidden to those of us who believe. The revelation of these things took place when the gospel of Jesus Christ came into the world. The agent of this revelation is the Holy Spirit. He has unveiled things to us that human research alone would have never discovered. This demonstrates the superiority of divine revelation from God to man through His Word over against the strugglings of human wisdom. The depths have been plumbed, but not by man, by the Holy Spirit who knows all and at a definite time has made known the things that God has prepared for them that love Him. And as Matthew Henry said, “And therefore we must take them as they lie in the scriptures, and as God has been pleased to reveal them.”
